Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known by the pseudonym Mark Twain (Florida, Missouri, November 30, 1835 - Redding, Connecticut,April 21, 1910) was a popular writer, speaker and humoristaestadounidense. He wrote works of great success as The Prince and the Pauper and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court, but is best known for his novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

At age four, his family moved to Hannibal (Missouri) river port on the Mississippi, where he began his studies. When his father diedin 1847, he began working as an apprentice in the printing, and manage the trade of compositor, and in 1851 published in the dailynotes of his brother. He later worked in the printing of Keokuk, Iowa, New York, Philadelphia and other cities. Later he was a pilot of a steamboat, Confederate soldier, and mining in the silver mines of Nevada.


At eighteen, he left his home and start their journeys in search of adventure and, above all, of fortune. He workedas a typesetter for a time in your region, then heading to New Orleans on the way, he enlisted as an apprentice pilot of a river steamer, a profession he was excited and playedfor a while, until the Civil War, 1861 interrupted river traffic, ending his driving career.

In his later years, Twain went through a period of deep depression, a situation that was reflected in their work.
After living three years in Riverdale, New York, in 1903 his wife became ill and moved to Italy looking for, medical advice, a warmer climate.
Between 1906 and 1907, Twain published Chapters from My Autobiography.

Mark Twain died on April 21, 1910. Twain's funeral was held at the Old Brick Presbyterian Church in New York, and was buried inthe family plot of his wife in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.
